Courtney Scaggs M.S., CCC-SLP
Speech Language Pathologist

Hello! My name is Courtney Scaggs and I am the owner and one of the providers at Space City Speech. I am an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association certified and Texas state-licensed Speech-Language Pathologist serving Texas. I am also a certified orofacial myologist through the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM).
I graduated from Radford University with a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Prior to that I attended Virginia Tech where I earned a Bachelor of Art in English-Language, Literature and Culture. I moved to Houston in my final semester of graduate school where I completed my pediatric internship and clinical fellowship.

Experience
As a speech therapist, I have worked in a variety of settings across the lifespan including pediatric private practice, inpatient rehab, and public schools. I chose to create my own practice because I saw the value in being able to see children in their natural environments, the opportunities for parent coaching, and the flexibility for busy families. I enjoy the flexibility of my private practice provides because I can connect with my clients and families in a way that encourages fluid carryover in order to ensure maximum progress, and ultimately success.
Through my experiences I have performed evaluation and treatment in a wide range of areas. This experience allowed me to really find my passions and by creating my private practice I have been able to really focus on the areas I love. My recent experience, training, and continuing education has focused on the areas of speech, language, and myofunctional disorders.

Through these experiences I have performed diagnostic and treatment in the areas Autism Spectrum Disorders, fluency, cognitive disorders, reading comprehension, phonological awareness, apraxia, feeding aversions, receptive/expressive language, pragmatic (social) language, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), swallowing, articulation, and voice (including transgender voice therapy). Additionally, I am a IAOM Trained Orofacial Myologist- Certification Candidate with advanced training in the areas of thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, inappropriate resting posture of the tongue and lips, and other harmful oral habits.
